Hunter Mountain

It was a windy and cloudy day at Hunter Mountain but that did not stop skiers and riders from tearing up the slopes! Standing at the top of the mountain you can tell how much skiers and riders love Hunter they are yelling “Thank you winter!” and “woohooing” people are pumped for the start of what seems to be like a great season for Hunter!

As the Official Blogger of I Ski NY, I got a tour of the mountain from Daniel, part of the Hunter Marketing team who showed me everything from the West side, to the North, to the summit, the terrain park, and the beginner area.  We skied almost everything.  I asked Daniel what his favorite thing about Hunter Mountain is and he expressed that he loves how “Hunter has a little something for everyone. You have blacks, blues and greens to choose from, you can mix and match them and switch it up.” For him it’s all about the destination, and where he wants to end up, whether it be the park, the Kaatskill Flyer 6 person chair lift, or even a green trail.  I definitely felt the same way when I skied Hunter today. You could start at the summit and then end up on the opposite side of the mountain which was super fun! I loved having the option of picking a different trail after skiing on one for a little while and mixing it up a little. It is a long way down from the top of the summit so picking some intermediate trails like Belt Parkway, White Cloud, Madison Avenue or Mossy Brook might be needed, especially at the end of the day.

The Terrain Park at Hunter is up and ready to go and looks phenomenal! You can tell the park is a big deal at Hunter, guests were excited to get into the park and some filming happened today too. It was exhilarating to overlook the park from the lift, there was a lot going on.

In the afternoon I sat down with Katie from Marketing and we talked about the new improvements of the mountain as well as some cool new deals for skiers and riders! Hunter had lots of snow today, they are definitely starting the season out right! With their new automated snow guns which reach from the top of the hill to the bottom they certainly can make enough snow in an efficient amount of time.

By next season Hunter will have expanded the mountain, they plan to have five new trails open and another 6 person chair lift.  This will all take place in between Hunter West and the main part of the mountain. These trails will all be intermediate for those skiers and riders who are intermediate and above I bet they will be some great trails! I hope they are similar to Belt Parkway, cause I really enjoyed skiing that today, the view of the Catskills was amazing and the trail was nice and long.

Hunter is also promoting some deals for this season, but ending soon! A big deal right now is their Park Discovery Program.  The Park Discovery Program is a learning program which gives you three days of lessons at any Peak Resort Mountain because Peak owns Hunter, three lift tickets and rentals.  This is all for the price of $99, before December 24.  After that the price raises to $139.  So purchase now to learn to ski or ride at Hunter Mountain for a great deal!

Don’t forget about I Ski NY’s Ski for Free program for 3rd and 4th graders! Hunter seems like a great place for 3rd and 4th graders to learn to ski and ride and develop their passion for the sport!

Come out and ski the Catskills! Hunter and Windham have been great this season, so come shred both of them!
