Windham Mountain

What a great day of skiing at Windham! With 90% of the West side open there was lots of terrain to choose from and tons of snow being made! Fresh corduroy with a mix of fresh powder straight off of the snow guns made some great conditions!

I personally have not skied Windham Mountain since I was about 10 years old, for a ski race.  So I was excited to ski the mountain again with a different perspective and as a better skier.  Also all my city people and Catskill Mountain lovers, this is a great mountain in the Catskills with lots of lodging and night time activities, such as snow tubing.

This morning I learned all about the mountain and their new and improved snowsports learning center from Communications Director Becky. If you haven’t seen the new learning center it is definitely worth it! Terrain based learning is the new approach that Windham Mountain is taking for beginners. This means that beginners will go through different sets of terrain that helps them learn to ride, turn, stop and feel confident doing it. Going through this was awesome and so much fun I wish I learned to ski like this.

When I asked General Manager Chip, about the terrain based learning, he said the main goal is to “improve retention of first time skiers and riders.”  Windham wants to gain more skiers and riders and keep them in the sport and that is all about the first experience.  I took a tour of the rental room today which is set up efficiently for beginner skiers and riders to get the help they need and get out on the slopes quickly. General Manager Chip said “guest experience is the most important, this includes from time they arrive at the parking lot to the time that they leave.”

As for snowmaking, the snow guns were on today and they are making snow on the east side of the mountain in hopes to have it open during the middle of the Christmas Week.

All my Terrain Park fans…the park was open, I repeat the park was open! They made it a priority to open this early in the season and it looks great! Lots of snow, rails and jumps to hit.

Windham Mountain is part of the upcoming I SKI NY Discover NY Ski Day January 18, 2018. So go learn to ski and ride at Windham with the new terrain based learning, or just hit the slopes with some discounted tickets!

Ski ya on the slopes!
